UnitedHealthcare Now Covers More of Indiana for 2027
What's happening in Indiana
Indiana's 2027 marketplace is reshuffling. CareSource and Cigna are both leaving, so their members need new coverage. At the same time, UnitedHealthcare expanded its Indiana footprint from 5 counties to 36 for 2027, and AmeriHealth Caritas is entering the state. That leaves four carriers on Indiana's marketplace for 2027: AmeriHealth Caritas, Anthem, Coordinated Care, and UnitedHealthcare.
For a displaced CareSource or Cigna member, the practical upshot is simple: in a lot more of Indiana, UnitedHealthcare — a large carrier with one of the broader networks — is now on the menu. Whether it's the right plan depends on your doctors, your prescriptions, and your budget, which is exactly what we compare.
Your options if your plan is leaving
A new marketplace (ACA) plan
- Best if your income qualifies you for a subsidy
- Guaranteed issue — no health questions
- More of Indiana now has a broad-network carrier option for 2027
- Networks and formularies vary — confirm your doctors and drugs
A private nationwide PPO
- Offered by only a limited number of agents — we're one
- Priced on your health, not your income — often cheaper if you're healthy or above the subsidy line
- Broad nationwide PPO network, no referrals, enroll year-round
- Medically underwritten — not everyone qualifies
What you should do now
- 1. Don't get auto-assigned. If your CareSource or Cigna plan is ending, pick your own 2027 coverage.
- 2. Check what's available in your county. Carrier options vary across Indiana — UnitedHealthcare's expansion means more counties now have it, but not all.
- 3. Compare both paths. A new marketplace plan vs. a private nationwide PPO — premium, network, and total cost.
- 4. Enroll before Dec 15 so your new coverage starts January 1 with no gap.
Key dates for 2027 coverage
Deadlines that matter
- Dec 31, 2026 — CareSource and Cigna Indiana plans end
- Nov 1, 2026 – Jan 15, 2027 — open enrollment (marketplace)
- Dec 15, 2026 — enroll by this date for Jan 1 coverage (no gap)
Good to know
- Private nationwide PPO plans enroll year-round — not tied to open enrollment
- Every marketplace plan is guaranteed-issue — no denial for pre-existing conditions
- Many of the same Indiana doctors appear across multiple carriers' networks

Is UnitedHealthcare available in my Indiana county for 2027?
Maybe — UnitedHealthcare expanded from 5 Indiana counties to 36 for 2027, so far more of the state now has it, but not every county. We check what's available at your exact zip before you enroll.
My CareSource or Cigna plan is ending. What are my choices?
You can choose a new marketplace plan from the carriers serving your county (which for 2027 include AmeriHealth Caritas, Anthem, Coordinated Care, and UnitedHealthcare), or a private, medically-underwritten nationwide PPO. We compare both and match it to your doctors and budget.
Do you only sell UnitedHealthcare?
No. We're an independent brokerage and not affiliated with any single carrier. We compare the marketplace carriers in your area and private nationwide PPO options, then recommend what fits you.
Will I keep my doctors?
Often yes — many Indiana doctors are in more than one carrier's network. We confirm your specific providers before you enroll so there are no surprises.
Does it cost anything to work with an advisor?
No. A licensed independent advisor is paid by the carriers, so there's no fee to you for help comparing plans and enrolling.
